UTSI’s Enrichment Outreach Program was developed to promote an interest in physics and science. The program focus audience would be students (and their teachers) in grades five and higher. Workshops, seminars, demonstrations and tours are scheduled throughout the year to inspire both teachers and students. The activities are designed to encourage creative thinking and to stimulate an interest in the sciences as a career. For more information on our Enrichment Outreach Program, please contact UTSI’s Continuing Education department.
Tours of UT Space Institute facilities can be arranged for educators and their students from area middle and high schools. Tours are scheduled on Wednesdays to accommodate our student body, who assist in conducting the tours. Please give us at least three weeks’ notice prior to the date you are requesting.
One department featured during the tours is the Center for Laser Applications. For the past 3 years, the Center has held a computational camp for area students entering the 8th and 9th grades in the fall. Many students and teachers have had the opportunity to learn the technologies, techniques, and tools of computational science during the two-week session here at UTSI. In the workshop, students learn how to use models, modify existing models, and create models from scratch. Topics studied include computational astrophysics, meteorology, agriculture, genomics, epidemiology, pharmacokinetics and drug design, 3D graphics, and computational chemistry.
