Home-Schooled Students Hold Science Fair at UTSI
Three students took top honors in a science fair for home-schooled
students April 1 at The University of Tennessee Space Institute.
Taylor Jackson, daughter of Randy and Julie Jackson of Estill Springs,
placed first with an exhibit labeled “Don’t Give Your Teeth the
Brush-Off.”
Micah Hauge, son of Jeff and Tammy Hauge of Winchester, took second
place with his “Opening a New Can of Worms” exhibit while Haley Wert,
daughter of Dr. Mark and Lorie Wert of Decherd captured third place with
her “Juice Rockets” exhibit.
Other participants included Derek Kudla, son of Mike and June Kudla, and
Kimberlie Jackson, daughter of Julie and Randy Jackson, all of Estill
Springs, and Abby Smith, daughter of Eric and Julie Smith, and Decon and
Seth Doak, sons of Andy and Melissa Doak, all of Tullahoma.
Christy Huddleston of Murfreesboro, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State
University, was judge of creativity while Tom Ebel of Massachusetts, a
graduate student in Electrical Engineering at UTSI, judged the science
aspects.
Tammy Hauge and UTSI Administrative Specialist Rebecca Layman of Decherd
coordinated the event. Jeff Hauge handed out awards to the participants
during a dinner in the Institute’s dining room.
