The Master's Thesis

The thesis represents the culmination of an original research project completed by the student. A thesis topic is normally selected by the student with the concurrence of a major professor chosen by the student. This usually occurs after approximately 12 to 18 hours of coursework have been completed. The student's research effort is guided primarily by the major professor on an individual basis until sufficient work has been completed to constitute a Master's-level project and justify the creation of a MS thesis committee (minimum of 3 faculty members including the major professor). Upon completion of the research, the thesis is written, and a final draft is supplied to all members of the student's committee, who provide a peer review and administer the oral examination
