Year Selected: 1992
June 27, 1982 on space shuttle Columbia (STS-4) which was
fourth flight of space shuttle; first DOD payload; additional
scientific payloads.
August 30, 1984 on space shuttle Discovery (STS 41-D) which
was twelfth flight of space shuttle and also the first flight
of a U.S. non-astronaut.
October 30, 1985 on space shuttle Challenger (STS 61-A) which
was 22 STS flight. Dedicated German Spacelab D-1 in shuttle
cargo bay.
Received M.S. in Engineering Science from UTSI in 1971.
Year Selected: 1992
November 1995 served as mission specialist on Atlantis (STS-74),
NASA's second space shuttle mission to rendezvous and dock
with the Russian Space Station Mir.
July 27, 2000, he will fly as mission specialist on space
shuttle Atlantis (STS-100), International Space Station assembly
Flight 6A in which the primary purpose of the flight will
be to deliver and install the new Canadian Robot Arm (Space
Station Remote Manipulator System), as well as a resupply
Logistics Module. During this flight, Hadfield's will be one
of 3 spacewalks planned.

Year Selected: 1994
Scheduled to serve as pilot on the crew of space shuttle Columbia
(STS-93) in January 1999. Mission featured the deployment
of the Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF) with enable
scientists to conduct comprehensive studies of exotic phenomena
in our universe including exploding stars, quasars and black
holes.

Year Selected: 1994
June 2-12, 1998 as pilot on STS-91 which was the 9th and final
Shuttle-Mir docking mission. Scheduled for September 1999
as pilot of STS-99, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).

Year Selected: 1994
January 22-31, 1998 on space shuttle Endeavor (STS-89) which
was the 8th shuttle-Mir docking mission during which the crew
transferred more than 9,000 pounds of scientific equipment,
logistical hardware and water from Space Shuttle Endeavor
to Mir. In the fifth and last exchange of a U.S. astronaut,
STS-89 delivered Andy Thomas to Mir and returned with David
Wolf.

Year Selected: 1996
No mission as of yet but after completing two years of training
and evaluation, he is qualified for flight assignment as a
pilot and is currently assigned technical duties in the Astronaut
Office Spacecraft Systems/Operation Branch.

Year Selected: 1998 Reported to Johnson Space Center in August 1998. Having completed 2 years of training and evaluation, he is qualified for space flight assignment as a pilot. Recently assigned technical duties in the Astronaut Office Advanced Vehicles Branch and CAPCOM Branch. Currently assigned as Pilot on STS-116, an assembly and crew-rotation mission to the International Space Station scheduled in 2003.

Year Selected: 2000(Candidate)Reported for training in August 2000. Candidate Training includes orientation briefings and tours, numerous scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in Shuttle and International Space Station systems, physiological training, ground school to prepare for T-38 flight training, as well as learning water and wilderness survival techniques. After initial training, will serve in technical assignments until assigned to a space flight.
