Residence Hall Phone Services

Each dormitory room is equipped with one telephone number for single occupancy, and two for double occupancy.  The number(s) may be dialed directly from outside the University by dialing 39 and the 5 digit extension.  These numbers are restricted to local and toll free calling.  Students can use the University’s calling card or any vendor calling card to make long distance calls.

Each number has a voice mailbox and caller ID.  Telephones are provided for the rooms, but students may provide their own telephone if they wish.

Calling Cards

Upon request, students will be issued a UTSI Student Calling Card in order to make long distance calls.  The cards are available at the Physical Plant building.  The cards can only be used on campus.

Rates

Long distance calls made anywhere in the United States are billed at $.05/minute.  Calls to Canada are billed at $.09/minute.  International rates vary by country.  If a specific rate is needed please call extension 37311 for information. 

Billing

Students with calling cards are billed monthly for all long distance calls made to their card.  Any collect calls accepted will be billed at the rate determined by AT&T or any other vendor charging for the call.  There is no monthly charge for telephone services.

Instructions

To use the UTSI calling card for a long distance:
Dial 9 + 1 + the number
After the beep, enter your 5 digit calling card number

To place a call on campus – dial the 5 digit extension
To call the Knoxville campus – dial the 5 digit extension (if the number you need to dial is 865-974-1234 you will dial 41234).
