Research

Primarily responsible for the development and application of chemically reacting, two-phase flow codes and models. Representative applications have included subsonic and scramjet engines, pulse detonation engines, engine augmenters, solid-rocket motor performance, missile aerodynamics, and exhaust plume behavior. Principal investigator for the development of efficient CFD methodologies to simulate numerous aspects of combustion processes and stability factors affecting chemical propulsion systems, including gas-turbine engines and rocket devices, as well as internal test-facility flow combustion and cooling phenomena. This computational tool can be applied to liquid and gas combustion processes leading to increased engine performance, reliability, and reduced emissions; ramjet/scramjet flow phenomena including mixing, ignition, and combustion; and detailed spray droplet analysis including atomization, phase change, and vaporization, as well as multiple spray modeling. Established an extensive experimental database in order to facilitate the validation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes
