In September, the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) marks sixty years of graduate study, research, and innovation. Founded in 1964 as a support arm of the Arnold Engineering Development Center, UTSI has been a successful part of maintaining expertise in both technical and managerial ranks at AEDC. Over 500 AEDC employees have earned graduate degrees at UTSI, including 46 doctorates.
In total, 2,480 graduate degrees—including 319 doctorates—have been awarded through UTSI, many of them to Tennesseans. For years, UTSI has served Tennessee industry by offering an online master’s program in engineering management and also served our military by offering distance education classes to those stationed at home and deployed worldwide.
We have many distinguished alumni, several of whom have achieved national fame as astronauts, company presidents, chief scientists, engineering managers, and renowned scholars and scientists. Many of our alumni occupy high-level positions in industry, government, and universities not only in the United States, but in other countries as well.
