UTSI HR invites you to join their 90-minute virtual workshop, “Intercultural Awareness and Conflict Mitigation.” There will be two separate times, one specifically for students and one for faculty and staff. Please register for the workshop below.
Date and Times:
- Student session: Friday, September 30, 2022 – 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. CST
- Past date: Faculty and Staff session: Friday, June 3, 2022
Description:
Better culture starts with better conversations and a better understanding of the ways in which we show up in spaces. By improving the quality of your organization’s everyday conversations, you will develop a culture of increased openness, respect for differences, and understanding – which will fuel collaboration, more innovation, and greater effectiveness. Exploring the different dimensions of identity creates an opportunity to build community, increase sensitivity, and experience authenticity. In this session, participants will examine the different identities and assumptions about themselves and others. Further, participants will engage in productive conversations while learning how to connect with diverse colleagues at various levels. This session will also cover conflict that arises due to cultural differences and provide best practices to mitigate these issues in academic settings. Through introductions and awareness exercises participants will discover how knowledge of the dimensions of identity encourages productivity. These sessions will also provide the participants with information on how they manage conflict in their lives and reflect on ways that they adequately address conflict in the spaces they occupy.
The sessions will be conducted by Dr. Bobbie Porter, Organizational Effectiveness & Inclusion Consultant and Higher Education Diversity Practitioner. (Dr. Porter conducted a virtual workshop for UTSI in 2020 on “Institutional Barriers to Inclusion”).
We are looking for everyone to participate in this virtual training. Please register below and add the date and time you registered to your calendar.
