Engaging students and advancing research at the intersection of biomedical engineering and materials science.
Founded in 2007, Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science (BEAMS) is a research group focused on the intersection of biomedical engineering and materials science. In recent years, we have expanded the scope of our research to include energy storage and military applications.
The BEAMS group has multiple varied research interests. We perform characterization of bulk-amorphous and nanoscale materials both in-house and at national facilities. Our unique characterization technique is Mössbauer spectroscopy. Much of our research pertains to medical devices, such as image plates and image-enhancing nanoparticles.
BEAMS is located at the Center for Laser Applications at the University of Tennessee Space Institute, and is also part of the Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) Department at the University of Knoxville.
