The University of Tennessee Mössbauer Laboratory is a facility located at the University of Tennessee Space Institute in middle Tennessee. The facility is available to run experiments, analyze spectra and If desired interpret results.
Mössbauer spectroscopy is a sensitive technique that provides information on the environment around the atom being probed. We have the ability to measure materials containing iron, antimony or europium. Tin is a possibility in future. The valency of the atom probed can be obtained from the isomer shift; quadrupole splitting can be determined, which is related to the local symmetry, and for magnetic materials, the hyperfine field can be measured. The advantages of the technique include low cost and fast results.
