UTSI Receives Donation for STEM Program
Jacobs and ATA recently made a donation to the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) to bring the Millard Oakley STEMmobile owned and operated by Tennessee Tech University (TTU) to the UTSI campus. The STEMmobile will be the centerpiece for STEM week May 16 – 22, 2016. STEM week is designed to present and engage in outreach activities with 7th grade students from the Local Workforce Investment Area 06 which encompasses Franklin, Coffee, Moore, Bedford, Lincoln, Grundy, and Warren counties. This joint effort is in collaboration with AEDC Foxes Den and Hands On Science Center of Tullahoma.
The STEMmobile is a 53’ classroom on wheels stocked with educational equipment, learning materials and supplies for STEM outreach activities. The STEMmobile is part of the Oakley STEM Center at TTU which also houses a lending library of STEM instructional materials available for the local educational community.
More information about STEM week at UTSI will become available early next year. For any questions concerning this endeavor contact Ms. Carole Thomas at 931-393-7300.
Participating with this wonderful opportunity to provide STEM experiences to our future leaders are: UTSI associate executive director James Simonton, TTU STEM coordinator Scott Eddins, UTSI program manager for STEM outreach Carole Thomas, Jacobs Technology Inc. senior vice president Ward Johnson, ATA deputy general manager Jeff Haars, and AEDC stem coordinator Jere Matty.
