“Rotary Wing Stability & Control Flight Testing” is scheduled at Patuxent River March 27-31, while “Fixed Wing Stability & Control Flight Testing” will be offered at UTSI May 15-26.

This fall at UTSI, “Fixed Wing Performance Flight Testing” is being offered Sept. 11-22, and “Rotary Wing Performance Flight Testing” is slated for Oct. 2-6.

Rodney Allison, UTSI, and John O’Connor, U.S. Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS), are directors and instructors for the first course. Other instructors include Mike Leigh, UTSI, Jim Lewis, Bob Miller, and Mike Mosher, all from USNTPS. Allison is an adjunct professor and manager of UTSI’s Flight Research Center at the Tullahoma airport, and Leigh is a research associate there.

These instructors and “experts from other organizations,” will cover the subject of rotary wing stability and control flight testing from theoretical and experimental viewpoints with active student participation in the flight experiments, Stines said.

“The theoretical background necessary to understand, perform, and analyze the flight experiments will be developed in the lectures,” she added. “Flight demonstrations using fully instrumented rotary wing aircraft will be conducted to tie theory and practice together.”
